Reggae Artiste Black Uhuru Biography by InfosysTV The most successful of the second-generation reggae bands, Black Uhuru maintained their high quality despite numerous personnel changes in their 40-plus-year history. The first reggae band to win a Grammy award, for their 1983 album Anthem, Black Uhuru was called "The most dynamic and progressive reggae act of the 1970s and early '80s." The band, whose name comes from the Swahili word meaning "freedom," was formed in the Waterhouse district of Kingston by Don Carlos, Rudolph "Garth" Dennis, and Derrick "Duckie" Simpson. When the group experienced difficulties securing a record contract, Spencer left to pursue a solo career and Dennis joined the Wailing Souls. Don't even apply' for event permits in troubled Clarendon

To help stem the present tide of shootings and murder in sections of Clarendon, the police hierarchy in the parish has announced that no permit for entertainment events will be granted in the affected areas.


In fact, head of the police division, Superintendent Vendolyn Cameron-Powell, has reportedly advised potential applicants from the affected communities not to waste time applying, as the door has been temporarily shut on consideration of permits for those areas.

Clarendon was rocked by at least 10 murders last week, a double killing in the Farm community, four deaths in New Bowens, and two in the nearby Monymusk Housing Scheme in Hayes on Friday.

In visiting New Bowens, the superintendent cited sections of May Pen, particularly Chapelton Road and Rectory Road; New Bowens, Hayes and sections of Palmer’s Cross as “no, no,” areas where residents “should not even waste their time in applying for permits”.

She also said small community bars and corner shops where several of the recent shootings have occurred will be ordered closed by nightfall.
