Reports are that, at about 10:25 pm, 44-year-old Yvette Bailey and her two sons, 24-year-old Mario Burkett and 14-year-old Travis Labbon, were at home when a group of gunmen kicked opened the door to the house. Reports reaching Loop News are that the family members were held at gun point and shot one by one. The criminals then made good their escape. Police were called and the bullet riddled bodies of the three were found. The killing has left residents in the community in shock. Patrick Powell’s gun trial adjourned until Wednesday

The gun-related trial of controversial businessman Patrick Powell was adjourned until Wednesday after defence attorney Debra Martin requested that the prosecution present two senior police officers to give evidence. Martin wants ACP Ealan Powell and senior investigator Frank Buchanan to give testimony. Powell was charged with failing to hand over his licensed firearm for inspection to detectives who investigated the shooting death of Kingston College student, Khajeel Mais, in 2011. Some 11 witnesses are expected to give testimony in the much-anticipated trial at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court. Powell was freed of allegations of murdering Mais at the end of a trial last October, after prosecutors decided not to offer any further evidence against him in that matter This was after a key crown witness had reversed his original statement on the circumstances behind Mais’s death. Sixty-five-year-old Jamaican Dorothy Edge who resides in the United States has been scammed of her life savings ahead of realising her goal of returning home for retirement. Edge, whose husband is ill, was conned out of US$28,000 ($3.6 million) by two persons on May 11, the Daily News reported. The woman, who did baby-sitting, compiled the money inside her Brooklyn, New York home over the years, including when she could not open a bank account. In recounting her misfortune, Edge said she was returning to her home in East Flatbush when a woman, who appeared to be in her 50s, approached her and struck up a conversation. According to Edge, the woman claimed she was from South Africa and was in the US because her uncle had died.
