Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck "Have No Plans" to Move Out of Family House, but It "Hasn't Been Easy"   Normally after a breakup, couples will go their separate ways—unless there are kids involved. Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck announced their split over the summer but have decided to remain more than amicable for the sake of their children. Unfortunately, that sometimes has its downsides for the Daredevil stars even though it has been a good choice for Seraphina , Violet and Samuel . Thankfully, both Garner and Affleck have their own spaces. "Ben is living in the family house, but in a separate section. He has a room to himself, but it's in an area that Jen goes to on a daily basis," a source close to Garner tells E! News. "It has forced them to have to day-to-day interactions and spend a lot more time together than a typical separated couple. It's working well for the kids to have both of them there in close quar

Bahamian authorities shut down Lenny Kravitz's dental practice

Bahamian authorities shut down Lenny Kravitz's dental practice Rocker had helped establish free clinic on the island of Eleuthera, but no one had thought to get the necessary paperwork  You’re a pop star with a 1,000-watt smile, and all you want is for others, less fortunate than you, to have the chance to flash similarly sparkling gnashers. And so, naturally, you open a charity dental practice. From there on in, it should all be plain sailing and good dental health, right? Sadly, that wasn’t Lenny Kravitz’s experience at the dentist’s. The rocker had established a charitable dental practice in Gregory Town on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera – where he has a home – to provide free dental care for four days, beginning on Friday 11 December. The practice was run from the town’s Catholic church hall by Kravitz’s Let Love Rule foundation and the GLO Good Foundation. However, the clinic had not obtained the necessary paperwork from the dental council, and f

Lady Gaga: Lording it

Image
She is the biggest pop star in the world, who doesn't have fans so much as disciples. But has Lady Gaga's Jesus complex gone too far?   I t's not the vertiginous heels that I can't keep my eyes off, nor the super-mafioso shades, not even the see-through catsuit. It's that little growth from her forehead. There's only one on show today. It could be a horn, a cancer, an embryonic phallus. It could be, as she likes us to think, a physical manifestation of her creative genius. And it could, of course, be prosthetic implant as fashion accessory. She's chatting away about how touring is her life, how she loves her fans like no other artist, her heroes, and all I'm thinking about is the growth. "Can I touch it?" She smiles, and doesn't answer. We're meeting again tomorrow. "Can I touch it tomorrow, please, just one little go?" I plead. She smiles again. "What is it?" "It's pleased to see

When rap raged against racism – 2015 and the black protest anthem

Image
When rap raged against racism – 2015 and the black protest anthem T he sound of Kendrick Lamar’s Alright rang out like a clarion call this year, from clubs, cars and house parties to police harassment protests. With prevalent, uncompromising lyrics like “Nigga, and we hate po-po/Wanna kill us dead in the street fo sho,” the standout moment of To Pimp a Butterfly was quickly established as the year’s definitive political anthem. In the months following Killer Mike’s impassioned pre-show speech that went viral after the Ferguson grand jury decision in 2014, discussion of US race relations in popular culture has amplified, with many artists politicising their music with renewed urgency. To Pimp a Butterfly was a visceral outpouring of this pain, which, in some cases, provided the language in which to fight back. It’s an album that uses nuance to deal with complex emotion , and its humour rewrites the mono-narrative of the NWA-era angry black male. That the hip

Steven Naismith in line to join Norwich City from Everton for £8m

Steven Naismith in line to join Norwich City from Everton for £8m Norwich City have agreed a deal in principle with Everton for the £8m purchase of Steven Naismith having revived interest first expressed in the summer, though they face competition from a number of rival Premier League clubs to secure the Scotland international. Naismith, scorer of an eye-catching hat-trick in the victory over Chelsea in September, has started only four Premier League games this season, and none at all since the loss to Manchester United at Goodison Park in mid-October. The 29-year-old had been the subject of a £7m bid from the Canaries in the last week of the summer window which was rejected with Roberto Martínez suggesting then that the player was “too important to Everton” to be permitted to leave given there was no real time in which to secure a replacement. The manager’s stance has since shifted, with Martínez indicating earlier this month that he intended to address the situat

If we really want more women in tech, we need to bring them back

If we really want more women in tech, we need to bring them back Better parental leave, equal pay and targets for diversity are all important, but the tech industry should look to women returners to fill the gaps Despite the lack of universal parental leave and the expectation that most women can return to work just a few weeks after giving birth, this year has actually been a good one for parents in the tech industry. Both Facebook and Netflix made positive changes to their maternity, paternity and adoption provision. Although in Netflix’s case you have to be in the right business y to benefit, which doesn’t suggest a wholehearted approach but at least it’s a step in the right direction. But small steps can only take us so far, is it too much to hope that 2016 will finally be the year that women in tech start to thrive?Much was made of Marissa Mayer’s decision to only take two weeks maternity leave after the birth of her twin daughters. Quite frankly, I’m in awe of her energy. The r

Rome won't be rebuilt in a day: the challenge of city centre restoration The Italian capital has a logistical nightmare: juggling ambitious restoration projects at the Colosseum and the Porta Maggiore basilica with trying to run and update the city – and all without a mayor. Can it cope? Scooter riders dodge potholes, while pedestrians lament the state of the metro and the lateness of the buses.Claudio Parisi Presicce, the city’s superintendent for cultural heritage, admits that one of the city’s most important challenges is mobility. US-led airstrikes have killed a French jihadi based in Syria

US-led airstrikes have killed a French jihadi based in Syria who was linked to the chief planner of November’s Islamic State atrocities in Paris and was “actively planning” new attacks, the Pentagon has said. Iraqi PM visits Ramadi after declaring Isis will be 'terminated' in 2016 Pentagon spokesman Col Steve Warren named the dead man as Charaffe al-Mouadan, a French national, who he said had a direct link to the Paris attack cell leader, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, and was killed on 24 December. It appeared to be the first successful targeting of anyone directly linked to the deadliest attack on civilians in France since the second world war, and in line with pledges by the US president, Barack Obama, and other western leaders that terrorism would not go unpunished.
