Reggae Artiste Black Uhuru Biography by InfosysTV The most successful of the second-generation reggae bands, Black Uhuru maintained their high quality despite numerous personnel changes in their 40-plus-year history. The first reggae band to win a Grammy award, for their 1983 album Anthem, Black Uhuru was called "The most dynamic and progressive reggae act of the 1970s and early '80s." The band, whose name comes from the Swahili word meaning "freedom," was formed in the Waterhouse district of Kingston by Don Carlos, Rudolph "Garth" Dennis, and Derrick "Duckie" Simpson. When the group experienced difficulties securing a record contract, Spencer left to pursue a solo career and Dennis joined the Wailing Souls. Woman plans with lover and son to rob boss

A St Andrew domestic helper who conspired with two men ­— said to be her boyfriend and son — to rob her boss of almost $2 million worth of valuables along with a firearm, was slapped with a two-year prison sentence when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court last week. According to the convicted woman, Tanya Burrell, who was employed to the complainant for two years, she orchestrated the robbery because her boss’s son did not pay her for her domestic service. The 35-year-old resident of Old Stony Hill Road planned with her two accomplices and went to the complainant’s home in Stony Hill on November 2 in the day, bound her and the complainant’s babysitter, and robbed the house of goods, including three television sets, jewellery, two laptop computers, US$5,000, a .38 revolver and 11 rounds of ammunition. US deports over 200 Haitians in last several weeks

Haitians line up at an immigration agency in Tijuana, Mexico, with the hope of gaining an appointment to cross to the US side of the border WASHINGTON, United States (CMC) — The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says more than 200 Haitians have been deported in the last several weeks, as the Barrack Obama administration has resumed deportation of Haitians living illegally in the country. DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, also “plans to significantly expand removal operations in the coming weeks”. But Johnson said Haitian nationals currently covered by Temporary Protected Status (TPS) are unaffected by the resumption of deportation to the French-speaking Caribbean country. “Specifically, those Haitian nationals who have been continuously residing in the United States since January 12, 2011 and currently hold TPS may remain in the United States and are not subject to removal,” he said in a statement. Plans to regularise squatter settlements

If you are a squatter living in an informal community, you may not need to be rush to find somewhere else to go. The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) last night promised to embark on a programme to regularise squatter communities. "It is our intention to make sure that they have the amenities that are necessary for good living. As far as those are concerned, we can't be moving them. We will need to make sure that the facilities that they enjoy are adequate," the JLP's Milton Brown said last night. Brown, who served as mayor of May Pen between 2003 and 2012, was speaking during the Local Government Debates held at the Creative Production and Training Centre Ltd in Kingston. Cabbie bites woman in face for squeezing penis

There was laughter inside the Linstead chapter of the St Catherine Parish Court after a taxi man explained that he bit the complainant in her face because she squeezed his penis in a fit of anger. He is Kevaun Frankson of Linstead, St Catherine. When he appeared before Parish Judge Monique Morris, he pleaded guilty with explanation.
