Reggae Artiste Black Uhuru Biography by InfosysTV The most successful of the second-generation reggae bands, Black Uhuru maintained their high quality despite numerous personnel changes in their 40-plus-year history. The first reggae band to win a Grammy award, for their 1983 album Anthem, Black Uhuru was called "The most dynamic and progressive reggae act of the 1970s and early '80s." The band, whose name comes from the Swahili word meaning "freedom," was formed in the Waterhouse district of Kingston by Don Carlos, Rudolph "Garth" Dennis, and Derrick "Duckie" Simpson. When the group experienced difficulties securing a record contract, Spencer left to pursue a solo career and Dennis joined the Wailing Souls. RM Pusey stands firm   SENIOR Corporate Area Magistrate Judith Pusey caught fire on the weekend from fellow members of the judiciary over what they say is her penchant for offering bail that is too low. The criticism came during a seminar held for judges and could well be prompted by the continued outcry of Jamaicans over the high crime rate and the fact that crimes are also being committed by people who are out on bail. But some senior attorneys told the Jamaica Observer yesterday that the hierarchy of the judiciary has “had it out” for the magistrate, who is widely revered by the public, including even those she has sent to jail. Yesterday, Pusey spoke of her chastisement while dealing with a matter before her in which an accused man had asked for his $100,000 bond to be reduced because he could not take up the bail offer. Busta Rhymes lauds Junior Reid   WHEN rap star Busta Rhymes introduced Junior Reid on stage during the Busta Rhymes And Friends show on December 5, he made no secret of his admiration for the veteran roots singer. “This man has been my godfather since 2006, and he is still my godfather today!” the burly rapper declared. The concert, which took place in Newark, New Jersey, had an all-star cast. “It was a great feeling hearing that from Busta Rhymes; he’s a great rapper and a really great friend,” Reid said. On her Instagram page a short while ago, Lady Saw, whose real name is Marion Hall, said God spoke to her today. “God has just spoken to me,” Hall wrote. “He did so at J Capri service and finish it off in my house.” Hall was among family, friends, fans, and well-wishers who gathered at the service of thanksgiving for the life of singjay Jordan 'J Capri' Phillips this morning at the University Chapel of the West Indies, Mona. Happy homecoming for Ashaka   Three years ago when Linval ‘Ashaka’ Thomas returned to Jamaica after many years, it was not for a vacation. He had unfinished business. The former United States Air Force officer recorded his first song, Bachelor Boy , in the late 1960s. He migrated to the US shortly after. Determined to record an album in Jamaica, the singer/songwriter did that over two years. That set, Call Me , was launched in June at Redbones Blues Cafe in St Andrew. “The most fulfilling thing musically for me in 2015 is without question the completion and subsequent launch of my album. The feeling was akin to waiting to exhale for a long time...Now I can breathe again,” said Ashaka.
