Reggae Artiste Black Uhuru Biography by InfosysTV The most successful of the second-generation reggae bands, Black Uhuru maintained their high quality despite numerous personnel changes in their 40-plus-year history. The first reggae band to win a Grammy award, for their 1983 album Anthem, Black Uhuru was called "The most dynamic and progressive reggae act of the 1970s and early '80s." The band, whose name comes from the Swahili word meaning "freedom," was formed in the Waterhouse district of Kingston by Don Carlos, Rudolph "Garth" Dennis, and Derrick "Duckie" Simpson. When the group experienced difficulties securing a record contract, Spencer left to pursue a solo career and Dennis joined the Wailing Souls. Simpson, who remained the thread throughout Black Uhuru's evolution, reorganized the band with Errol "Jay" Wilson and quivery-voiced lead vocalist Michael Rose. Juju Blood launches D’Yung Veteran

 

his father and older brother launching albums this year, singjay JuJu Blood drops his debut set this evening at Club View in St Andrew.
Titled D’Yung Veteran, it has a number of guest appearances from his father Junior Reid and brother Jawada.
“It’s a great feeling knowing that I’m doing what I really love. It really means a lot to me, I’ve been working on this album for over two years,” JuJu Blood told the Jamaica Observer.

Weh mi Come From, the lead song, is a family affair. It features Jawada and is produced by their younger brother Adoney Reid. D’Yung Veteran follows the launch of Junior Reid: The Living Legend in August and Start The Movement by his brother Yung Jr in September.
According to JuJu Blood, D’Yung Veteran, reflects his influences.
“I listen to all types music yuh nuh; I’m a free spirit Rasta youth. I listen artiste like Toian, Ellie Goulding, Israel Vibration, Junior Reid, Hugh Mundell I Wayne,” he said.
