Former cop takes aim at Portia

Image
A former member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said Jamaicans should revolt if harm comes to any resident in St Ann as a result of statements made by Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller. Simpson Miller last week made statements, which have been inflammatory in some quarters, while speaking at a political meeting in Claremont, St Ann. The People's National Party (PNP) president, who is the Member of Parliament for the garrison constituency of South West St Andrew, warned detractors that "I will come back here for another meeting and I know who I will bring". In a video post, which has been making waves on social media, the former cop noted that Jamaica has had a long history of crime being influenced by politicians. He suggested that Simpson Miller was reckless and that persons may be influenced to act on her behalf. "I hope the country have an uprising if anything happens to anybody in St Ann," the former cop said. Simpson Miller had journeyed to Cl

They brought terrorists to us from all over the world,” said Bashar al-Ja'afari (seen below) while addressing the United Nations Security Council on Monday. Saudi Arabia and its regional allies, particularly Turkey and Qatar, are widely reported to be supporting the militants fighting the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad since March 2011. “The terrorists are the Takfiris, the Takfiri terrorists that are influenced by the Saudi Wahabi thinking. What Daesh and al-Nusra do corresponds exactly to the very same ideas prevailing in Saudi Arabia,” he added. Ja'afari also condemned allegations made by the US’s UN e

Three US police officer were targeted in separate ambush attacks on Sunday. (File photo) One US police officer has been killed and two more have been injured as the results of two separate ambush-style attacks in Texas, Florida and Missouri. The first attack took place in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, when a police detective was shot and killed in his squad car during a traffic stop, according to authorities. Police Chief William McManus said the assailant pulled over behind Officer Benjamin Marconi’s car and then walked to the veteran cop’s window, shooting him two times in the head. The identity of the gunman and his motives were not immediately clear, McManus said, noting that the shooting had nothing to do with the traffic stop. Hours later, another similar attack took place in St. Louis, Missouri, where an officer was shot two times in the face as he sat in his car. The unidentified shooter pulled next to the officer with his car and managed to flee the scene after shooting him.

Russian President Vladimir Putin Russia has decided to withdraw its signature from the founding statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), saying the tribunal has failed to live up to the hopes of the international community. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said it would pull out from the ICC following a decree by President Vladimir Putin, who decided for Moscow not to be "a participant in the ICC statute."The statement said the main reason for the withdrawal was the ICC's way of treating Russia's brief war with neighboring Georgia in 2008, adding that the international tribunal had ignored Georgia’s aggression against pro-Moscow civilians in the separatist region of South Ossetia."In these conditions one cannot speak of trust in the International Criminal Court," the ministry said, calling the ICC’s work as "one-sided and inefficient." The statement also slammed the ICC’s lack of independence in dealing with
