Police in western Uganda have arrested the king of Rwenzururu over clashes between police and militia which killed at least 55 people, officials say. Charles Wesley Mumbere is accused of inciting violence after militiamen reportedly attacked a police post in his hometown of Kasese. Security forces stormed his palace amid claims he was harbouring fighters. The king has denied any involvement. At least 14 police officers and 41 militants have died in the clashes. Vasyl Lomachenko successfully defended his WBO junior lightweight title Saturday night when Jamaican boxer Nicholas Walters was unable to continue after seven rounds. Lomachenko, the 28-year-old Ukrainian who won two Olympic gold medals, improved to 7-1. Walters dropped to 26-1-1. "My goal is to be the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world," Lomachenko said. Lomachenko had his best round of the fight in the seventh, landing multiple power shots, including a hard shot to the temple that ultimately led Walters to stop at the Cosmopolitan. "He's a good fighter, really strong," Lomachenko said. "But he stood there and made it easy for me, then in the end he just quit." The pace quickened in the third, with Lomachenko leading the action and Walters looking to counter. Lomachenko landed a hard straight left, the best punch of the fight up until that point and began to establish himself as the aggressor by the end of the fourth. Walters battled back in t

Much uncertainty ahead in US-Cuba relationship

Image
Fidel Castro's passing removes what was long the single greatest psychological barrier to a warmer U.S.-Cuba relationship. But it also adds to the uncertainty ahead with the transition from an Obama to a Trump administration. "A brutal dictator" of a "totalitarian island," declared President-elect Donald Trump, underscoring the historical trauma still separating the countries. A more restrained President Barack Obama, carefully promoting and working to preserve his own attempt to rebuild those ties, said history would assess Castro's impact and that the Cuban people could reflect "with powerful emotions" about how their longtime leader influenced their country. In death as in life, Castro has divided opinion: a revolutionary who stood up to American aggression or a ruthless dictator whose movement trampled human rights and democratic aspirations. President Raul Castro, Fidel's younger brother, is 85. Their Communist Party shows no signs of open
