Reggae Artiste Black Uhuru Biography by InfosysTV The most successful of the second-generation reggae bands, Black Uhuru maintained their high quality despite numerous personnel changes in their 40-plus-year history. The first reggae band to win a Grammy award, for their 1983 album Anthem, Black Uhuru was called "The most dynamic and progressive reggae act of the 1970s and early '80s." The band, whose name comes from the Swahili word meaning "freedom," was formed in the Waterhouse district of Kingston by Don Carlos, Rudolph "Garth" Dennis, and Derrick "Duckie" Simpson. When the group experienced difficulties securing a record contract, Spencer left to pursue a solo career and Dennis joined the Wailing Souls. Peter Tosh's son, Jawara McIntosh remains in a coma after he was allegedly brutally beaten while in custody on marijuana charges. Jawara, 37, was allegedly beaten while in custody at Bergen County Jail in New Jersey where he was serving a six-month sentence for cannabis-related charges. "We cannot be silent in the face of such inhumanity,” Ndaba Mandela, the granddaughter of Nelson Mandela, said. Reggae band Morgan Heritage has ventured into the medical marijuana industry by investing in a marijuana delivery service company. Morgan Heritage announced that it has partnered with United States-based Proper Rx, a company which delivers medical marijuana products to clients. The medical marijuana providers also caters to the groups of patients who do not have cars, are too ill to leave their homes, or are handicapped. “We have signed on as a shareholder in an effort to take an amazing local business from Oakland, CA, across the state and subsequently across the country in states where medical Marijuana is legal,” said Memmalatel 'Mojo' Morgan of the reggae band. Vendors killed at Coronation Market last night A section of Coronation Market in downtown Kingston. Two vendors were shot and killed last night at the Coronation Market in downtown Kingston. They have been identified as 34-year-old Dane McDonald, and 54-year-old Sonia Bennett. According to the communications unit if the Jamaica Constabulary Force, at about 9:50 p.m., residents heard explosions and summoned the Darling Street Police.
