Reggae Artiste Black Uhuru Biography by InfosysTV The most successful of the second-generation reggae bands, Black Uhuru maintained their high quality despite numerous personnel changes in their 40-plus-year history. The first reggae band to win a Grammy award, for their 1983 album Anthem, Black Uhuru was called "The most dynamic and progressive reggae act of the 1970s and early '80s." The band, whose name comes from the Swahili word meaning "freedom," was formed in the Waterhouse district of Kingston by Don Carlos, Rudolph "Garth" Dennis, and Derrick "Duckie" Simpson. When the group experienced difficulties securing a record contract, Spencer left to pursue a solo career and Dennis joined the Wailing Souls. Jah Cure freed of fighting charge in The Bahamas

Jah Cure     Grammy-nominated artiste Jah Cure was among two Jamaicans arrested and charged in The Bahamas yesterday. The arrest follows an altercation that took place at the Atlantis Paradise Island Hotel on the weekend. Jah Cure and his manager appeared in Magistrate Court No. 1 to answer to charges of fighting. When the entertainer and his manager appeared in court, he pleaded not guilty to the charges and was freed after the prosecution decided to withdraw the case against him. His manager, however, pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined B$150 or one month in prison. The fine was paid. Overall, three persons were arrested and charged yesterday for the incident at the popular hotel.  THE STAR  understands that the other individual is a Bahamian. The Ministry of National Security has requested a report from prison authorities outlining their  reasons for transferring incarcerated entertainer Vybz Kartel to the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in downtown Kingston. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security Dionne McIntosh said that she was informed of Kartel’s transfer by the Department of Correctional Services (DCS). “I know he was transferred and I’m waiting on the reasons and the report,” McIntosh told THE STAR ONLINE on Wednesday. The has been speculation that the entertainer, whose given name is Adidja Palmer, was moved because he of suspicion that he is recording music from the high-security Horizon Adult Remand Centre in St Andrew.
