Reggae Artiste Black Uhuru Biography by InfosysTV The most successful of the second-generation reggae bands, Black Uhuru maintained their high quality despite numerous personnel changes in their 40-plus-year history. The first reggae band to win a Grammy award, for their 1983 album Anthem, Black Uhuru was called "The most dynamic and progressive reggae act of the 1970s and early '80s." The band, whose name comes from the Swahili word meaning "freedom," was formed in the Waterhouse district of Kingston by Don Carlos, Rudolph "Garth" Dennis, and Derrick "Duckie" Simpson. When the group experienced difficulties securing a record contract, Spencer left to pursue a solo career and Dennis joined the Wailing Souls. Turkey coup attempt: State of emergency announced

n Turkey's president has declared a state of emergency for three months following Friday night's failed army coup. The declaration could be used to extend the detention of nearly 10,000 people rounded up since the failed coup. More than 600 schools have been closed and thousands of state workers sacked in a crackdown by the president. "This measure is in no way against democracy, the law and freedoms," said Mr Erdogan after announcing the state of emergency. He praised those who were killed fighting against the coup as "martyrs". Some 246 people were killed resisting the attempted coup, according to the government. Mr Erdogan was speaking after holding meetings of Turkey's national security council and the cabinet in the capital. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier responded to Mr Erdogan's speech by urging the Turkish government to maintain both the rule of law and a sense of proportionality in its response to the coup

Australian rugby player Michael Quinn admits US child sex charge

Quinn, 33 and a player with the Melbourne Chargers, arrived in the US on 19 May and believed he had made contact with child traffickers. Instead he was arrested on 21 May after giving $250 ($A335; £190) to undercover agents he believed would give him access to a six-year-old boy. He faces up to 13 years in prison. Melania Trump plagiarism row: Staffer admits role in speech

An employee of the Trump Organisation, Meredith McIver, has admitted her role in writing Melania Trump's speech at the Republican National Convention. Mrs Trump, the third wife of Republican candidate Donald Trump, faced accusations that parts of her speech had plagiarised Michelle Obama. Lines in the speech matched almost word for word those delivered by Mrs Obama at the Democrats' convention in 2008. Ms McIver said her offer to resign was rejected by the Trumps. "This was my mistake, and I feel terrible for the chaos I have caused," she said  in a statement .
