Reggae Artiste Black Uhuru Biography by InfosysTV The most successful of the second-generation reggae bands, Black Uhuru maintained their high quality despite numerous personnel changes in their 40-plus-year history. The first reggae band to win a Grammy award, for their 1983 album Anthem, Black Uhuru was called "The most dynamic and progressive reggae act of the 1970s and early '80s." The band, whose name comes from the Swahili word meaning "freedom," was formed in the Waterhouse district of Kingston by Don Carlos, Rudolph "Garth" Dennis, and Derrick "Duckie" Simpson. When the group experienced difficulties securing a record contract, Spencer left to pursue a solo career and Dennis joined the Wailing Souls. Simpson, who remained the thread throughout Black Uhuru's evolution, reorganized the band with Errol "Jay" Wilson and quivery-voiced lead vocalist Michael Rose. Born in the parish of Portland as Horace Latouche i grow up in a musical family and I always have a love an passion for music from i was very young i started to do it professionally in the early 90s playing sound systems wining sound clashes but things didn't stop there i started to do community stage shows and alot of dub plate for sound systems and after doing all this i visited the uk 02 singing in clubs pub house party's doing dub plate etc. came back to Jamaica and still doing positive music and till in o9 i entered a sing j competition on re TV and for four weeks i was at the top undefeated i turned out i won i didn't get the recording contract after winning but it was a good experience am still doing positive music and i have tracks playing in places like us, uk, Ghana, i give Jah thanks for that
