Green Party wants an election system that Americans can trust
Defeated US Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein
Defeated US Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein says her party is struggling for an election system that Americans can trust.
Stein made the remarks on Friday night after she officially requested a vote recount in the state of Wisconsin where she intends to challenge the presidential election results.
“We are standing up for an election system that we can trust; for voting systems that respect and encourage our vote, and make it possible for all of us to exercise our constitutional right to vote,” she said.
“We demand voting systems that are accurate, secure and accountable to the people. This is part of a larger commitment to election reform that our campaign and the Green Party has long stood for, which includes open debates, an end to voter ID laws and voter suppression, and ranked choice voting,” she sated.
Stein added that nearly five million dollars has been raised to push for the recount.
Stein submitted the recount request to Wisconsin authorities shortly before the state’s 5:00pm deadline on Friday, the Wisconsin Elections Commission announced. Reform Party candidate Rocky De La Fuente also filed for a recount in Wisconsin.
Stein also planned to formally file for recounts with authorities in Michigan and Pennsylvania in the coming days. The deadlines to petition for recounts are approaching in Pennsylvania on Monday and Michigan on Wednesday.
Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton narrowly lost these three states to Republican Donald trump, the president-elect.
Wisconsin’s Election Commission said it’s preparing to move forward with a statewide recount following her request.
Stein’s push for recounts comes as a growing number of academics and computer scientists, as well as election lawyers, believe foreign hackers could have modified vote totals.
The experts say that analysis of electronic voting machines in the states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania suggests that results may have been manipulated or hacked in some counties.
In Wisconsin for example, the analysts say Trump claimed disproportionate wins in counties that used electronic voting compared with those that used only paper ballots.
The efforts have been fueled to some extent by the allegations before the election that Russia was looking for ways to manipulate the results in favor of Trump.
However, according to some political analysts, Stein is acting on behalf of those people who wanted Clinton to win the White House instead of Trump.
Jewish billionaire George Soros is conspiring against US President-elect of Donald Trump, analysts say.
Jewish billionaire George Soros is behind the recount push, Mark Dankof, a former US Senate candidate, told Press TV on Friday.
Dankof said it is very clear that when Jill Stein cannot suddenly raise this kind of money.
Soros has been accused by Trump supporters of using his money to organize widespread protests against the president-elect ever since his election victory on November 8.
