In an interview with Radar, the Two And A Half Men star explained that protecting his privacy until he could make the announcement of his terms was the right thing to do.

“I was trying to protect my privacy. I didn’t want to be forced into revealing my condition based on somebody else’s greed or folly,” he said.
“I still believe, at the time with what was going on, it was the right decision [to pay people off.
The 50-year-old, who allegedly spent $10m on keeping the secret under wraps, claims that he was angry at himself and the world for a while, but soon resolved to beat HIV.
"I think it was the second day – I said to my mom, 'this disease picked the wrong guy.'"
If anybody can fight this thing and discover a cure, it's me. I will exhaust every resource available to me. I will sit with every expert. I will move forward until something's revealed," he continued.
The Hollywood legend also confirmed that even at his lowest, he never considered suicide.
Sheen added: "I didn't, no, and I never considered it before the diagnosis. I've never been that guy.
"I've always said if somebody's gonna kill themselves, they should jump off a building. It's pretty sure-fire! Slashed wrists are usually just a cry for help."
